Range Rover Tuning

Range Rover Tuning – 3 stages to tuning perfection. The 5.0 V8 supercharged engine used in the range of Land Rovers, including the Range Rover, Velar, and New Defender are especially good for tuning. This is partly because the V8 engine is used in a number of vehicles and models already running bigger power.  The V8 engine is proven and tested to run over 650bhp with no impact on longevity, servings or maintenance.

Land Rover stages of tuning and performance upgrades

There are 3 typical stages to tuning the range of Land Rover vehicles, including the Range Rover, Velar and the New Defender 5.0 V8 Supercharged engines.

Stage 1 Tuning

Stage 1 tuning for the Range Rover normally starts with an ECU remap. This will achieve nice strong power and torque across the rev range. Adding around 55bhp to the 5.0ltr V8 engine. Access through the OBD port makes this a s quick and painlessly operation. As such the tuning is not invasive, and can be returned to stock software any time too. VIEZU will also offer to retune any time should you need if you lose your software due to service update for example. VIEZU also offer a 30 day trial, and tuning software insurance.

Stage 2 Tuning

Stage 2 tuning on the Land Rover vehicles is normally to change to a smaller upper supercharger pulley. The pulley is changed for the same reason as you change gear on a push bike. I.e. by making the pulley smaller, the supercharger spins faster and hence produces more boost pressure for the for the same amount of engine revolutions. Hence creating more boost pressure at less engine RPM.

In theory the Range Rover supercharger pulley can be a stand alone upgrade. However, for best results the supercharger pulley should always be a  combination with a remap tooo. This will very significantly boost performance, power and torque

VIEZU also suggest you change the factory air filters for a high performance filter at the same time. This will help to ensure there is no restriction in air flow into the supercharger.

Stage 3 Tuning

Stage 3 Range Rover tuning would be to also upgrade the lower supercharger pulley. The Eaton supercharger of the Range Rover, Velar and the New Defender is factory rated to 18,000 rpm. With both the upper and lower supercharger pulleys, the charger will reach 17,400 at 6500 engine rpm. As such these superchargers are more than capable of handling the additional RPM and boost pressure produced.  Now is the time to upgrade your air filters if you have not already done so.

This combined set of stage 3 tuning upgrades will deliver around 660-670bhp. Serious power and performance.

Other Land Rover tuning options?

If you are looking for more power and performance from your Land Rover you may also want to look at a full cat back performance exhaust system. 200 cells cats, or even de-cat, and / or an air induction system. These additions will deliver more power and torque. And improve the soundtrack of your V8 too.

These stage tuning options will take your Land Rover’s performance to a whole new level.
