Who is Magic Motorsport?

Magic Motorsport is a company that specialises in the design and production of electronic programming tools for the automotive industry. Based in Italy they have become a significant name in the chiptuning and mechatronics sector. Their products are used by professionals worldwide to read and write data from Engine Control Units (ECUs) and Transmission Control Units (TCUs). This allows for performance tuning vehicle repairs and other modifications.

The company is known for its innovative approach providing tools that are both powerful and user friendly. They offer a range of hardware and software solutions that cater to different needs from basic OBD programming to more advanced Bench and Bootloader methods. Their commitment to continuous development ensures that their tools support a vast and ever growing list of vehicles.

What access paths does the FLEX support?

The Magic FLEX tuning tool supports 3 connection modes:

OBD:

This is the simplest method connecting directly to the vehicle’s diagnostic port. It allows for quick and efficient reading and writing of the ECU’s data without needing to remove it from the vehicle.

Bench:

For ECUs that cannot be tuned via OBD the Bench mode allows you to work directly on the ECU without opening it. This method is faster and less intrusive than Boot mode.

Boot:

This is the most advanced method providing access to the ECU’s deepest memory. It requires opening the ECU to make direct connections to the circuit board. Bootloader mode is essential for cloning and repairing ECUs, especially modern ones with anti-tuning protection.

How is the FLEX tuning tool powered?

The FLEX hardware receives its power in two ways depending on the connection method. When tuning via OBD, the tool is powered directly by the vehicle’s diagnostic port. However, when working in Bench or Boot mode, you must use a 12V/14V power supply (an accessory included in the Magic Motorsport tuning start-up kit). It is vital to always use a high-quality battery stabiliser or a regulated power supply during the read and write processes to maintain a constant voltage, as a drop in power can lead to a failed write and a potential ECU “brick.”

What is the difference between the Magic Motorsport FLEX Slave and Master?

A Magic Motorsport FLEX Master tool can read and write unencrypted files meaning you can edit the files yourself using separate software. A FLEX Slave tool reads and writes encrypted files that are tied to a specific Master tool. The Slave user sends the read file to their Master who decrypts, modifies and encrypts the file before sending it back. The Slave model is a great starting point for new tuners as it involves a lower initial investment and a gentler learning curve.

Can I buy the FLEX Slave tool and upgrade to the FLEX Master tool later?

With VIEZU, yes you can upgrade your Slave hardware to a Master. This involves a “Slave to Master” transfer fee and the purchase of Master-level protocols. You will also need the consent of your current Master (VIEZU) to release the tool before the upgrade can take place.

How do I update my Magic Motorsport FLEX tool?

Updating your FLEX is straightforward because the software is cloud-based. When you launch the FLEX SW (Software) on your PC, it automatically checks for the latest version. If an update is available, you will be prompted to download and install it before proceeding. This ensures you always have the latest vehicle protocols and security patches. You must have an active internet connection and a current FLEX subscription to access these updates.

What is the FLEX warranty?

Magic Motorsport offers a Limited Lifetime Warranty on the FLEX hardware, provided you maintain an active MMS.care (subscription) account. If your subscription lapses for more than seven days, the lifetime cover is voided and reverts to a standard 24-month warranty from the original activation date. The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship but does not cover physical damage, liquid ingress or misuse.

Is Magic Flex durable?

The Magic Motorsport FLEX vehicle tuning tool is built for heavy workshop use, but its lifespan depends on how you treat it. Hardware quality is only part of the equation; reliability comes down to your setup.

Workshop Best Practices

  • Cable Quality: Use short, high-quality leads. This ensures better signal integrity and stops long cables from pulling on the ports.
  • Port Care: Do not put strain on the USB or power sockets. Keeping connections “tension-free” prevents damage to the internal solder joints.
  • Bench Hygiene: Keep your workspace clean. Metal filings and shop grime are the fastest way to ruin a tool.
  • Stable Power: Use a regulated power supply. It protects the FLEX and the ECU from voltage spikes during a flash.

The FLEX is tough, but these basic habits make the difference between a tool that lasts one year and one that lasts ten.

Do I have to buy a Magic FLEX tuning tool Subscription?

Yes Magic Motorsport tools like the FLEX require an annual subscription. This subscription gives you access to the latest software updates, new protocols and technical support. While some other tools on the market have no subscription fees, the value of continuous updates and support from Magic Motorsport is a key consideration for a professional business.

How much does a Magic Motorsport FLEX tuning tool subscription cost?

The cost for a Magic Motorsport FLEX subscription renewal typically ranges from £297.00 to £797.00 (plus VAT), depending on the specific software package you are running.

Subscription Costs by Activation Type:

VIEZU offers different renewal prices based on whether you have a Master or Slave tool and which protocols are active:

FLEX Slave Subscription Renewal Costs

  • Magic FLEX Slave Full Subscription: £497 + VAT
  • Magic FLEX Slave OBD & Bench Subscription: £297 + VAT

FLEX Master Subscription Renewal Costs

    • Magic FLEX Master Full Subscription: £797 + VAT
  • Magic FLEX Master OBD & Bench Subscription: £497 + VAT

Note: These prices are for the annual 12-month renewal to keep your protocols active and receive the latest software updates

What happens if my FLEX subscription expires?

If your Magic Motorsport FLEX subscription expires, your tool will still function, but you will only be able to use the protocols that were released before your expiry date. You will lose access to the latest vehicle updates, cloud services, and technical support. Your lifetime warranty will also revert to a standard limited term.

How can I add protocols to my FLEX tuning device?

The FLEX is “flexible” by design. You can start with basic OBD protocols and add more as your business grows. To add protocols, you simply purchase the desired activation (such as TCU/Gearbox or Full Master/Slave) through the VIEZU shop. Once the order is processed, the new protocols are linked to your tool’s serial number and become available the next time you sync your software.

Where can I find the FLEX vehicle list?

The most Magic Motorsport FLEX up-to-date vehicle list is available here:

This is a live database that allows you to search by vehicle make, model, or ECU part number. It will also tell you which connection method (OBD, Bench, or Boot) is required for that specific vehicle and whether a full clone is possible.

Does the FLEX work on 24V vehicles?

Yes, the FLEX hardware is designed to handle both 12V and 24V systems. This makes it a popular choice for tuners working on trucks, tractors, and heavy plant machinery, provided you have the correct protocols activated.

Is the Magic FLEX better than Autotuner & the Alientech KESS3?

Choosing between these three industry leaders depends on your specific business goals. However, the Magic Motorsport FLEX vehicle tuning tool holds a distinct advantage in technical areas where other tools can sometimes struggle.

While Autotuner is known for its “no-subscription” model and the Alientech KESS3 is known for its massive legacy vehicle list, the FLEX is widely considered the industry leader for mechatronics and advanced cloning.

Why FLEX stands out from the competition

  • The Ultimate Cloning Tool: The FLEX is a must-have for repair and hardware replacement. Its ability to perform full Bench clones involves moving every bit of data from a damaged ECU or TCU to a donor unit. This process is arguably the most stable in the industry. While KESS3 and Autotuner offer cloning, the FLEX and its dedicated Flexbox hardware provide a level of precision and diagnostic feedback that makes complex cloning much safer.
  • TCU (Gearbox) Tuning: If you plan to specialise in gearbox tuning for DSG or ZF 8HP systems, the FLEX is the superior choice. It offers more comprehensive support for Transmission Control Units than almost any other tool on the market. Its ability to read and write gearbox controllers via the diagnostic port or on the bench is incredibly robust.
  • Advanced Bench Stability: The FLEX was one of the first tools to truly master Bench mode, which is tuning without opening the ECU. This head start has resulted in a very mature and stable platform. The hardware is designed to detect connection errors before you start writing, which significantly reduces the risk of a bricked unit compared to less diagnostic-heavy interfaces.
  • Modular Versatility: Unlike the Autotuner, which is an all-in purchase, the FLEX allows you to be specific. You can start with a lower investment by only activating the protocols you actually use. You can then add Boot or Full Bench capabilities as your skills and customer base grow.
